Stewart Island/Rakiura has become very popular as a tourist destination. Recreational hunting is also very popular with increasing numbers of hunters each year. Management of any resource can not be soundly based without knowing what is happening. The New Zealand Deerstalkers' Association with the support of the Department of Conservation have developed a permit return form to provide some data on what is happening. We hope this will enable recreational hunters to be better represented and given as much assistance as possible with planning their trip.
